Mr. Crawford is a graduate from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. In his time at Central, he studied trombone under the teachings of Dr. David Stagg and played trombone in the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensembles, Symphony Orchestra and various other musical groups. Crawford spent time as Low Brass Section leader and Drum Major with the UCM Marching Mules, and later studied conducting under the guidance of Dr. Scott Lubaroff. In his senior year at Central, Crawford worked through the Honors College and other organizations in comprising his senior conducting recital, where he conducted some of the best musicians at the university in various chamber ensemble groups.
Prior to teaching in Clinton, Crawford student taught in the Liberty Public School District with none other than Paul Warnex--known for his superb band direction, trombone playing, and organ skills. In that time, Crawford was able to learn in several diverse teaching settings, travel and evaluate bands at the high school level, and find time to relax! Other educational mentors include Marti Whelan and Cindy Svehla of Liberty Public Schools; Don Long and Jon and Erica Gregory of the Fort Osage School District.
Crawford was blessed to be joined into marriage with the most beautiful woman he knows. He and his wife were recently wedded in July of 2011 and honeymooned in Disney World, where Crawford was legally allowed to make a fool of himself in any way shape and form. One way was by getting his picture with beloved heroes such as Buzz Lightyear and Eeyore.
Crawford truly believes music education is the best industry someone can work in. He looks forward to the mentoring relationships he can have with his students, and hopes all of them are able to pursue their dreams to the fullest potential, whether musical or non-musical. Hopefully, by the end their time in school, they will feel they have taken major steps toward pursuing those dreams.
